Mandukya was born in the 90’s during the Goa trance explosion led by artists such as X-Dream, Eat Static, Juno Reactor, Hallucinogen, and Total Eclipse, to name a few. As a pianist and drummer, Julien had the desire to fusion his wide musical influences into this new revolutionary movement, shaping a deep, melodic, and distinctive sound that already pointed toward what would later be called Neo-Goa. In 1996, Julien co-founded the Droidsect collective, with Mandukya as one of its four pillars alongside Darkomen, The Crow and Empirius. The project quickly became known through underground parties in Goa and a small circle of DAT DJs. Soon after, Mandukya began performing internationally, appearing at events in Japan, Canada, Greece, France, Israel, and Macedonia. In 1999, Goa Gil approached Julien to release the first Mandukya track on a Phonokol Records compilation, followed by releases on emerging labels such as Nephilim and Apoxina. After years dedicated to other major projects like Digital Talk and Mindcore, Julien revived Mandukya in 2022 to once again share his most intimate and mystical sonic visions. Deep, quirky, and celestial narratives, expressed through volcanic symphonies are returning in a new form.
